George Logan
If I had to describe this work in a few words they would be shocking, realistic, emotive, clever, because this piece shows a real silent victim of the human raise, I used the word emotive because when you look at this photograph the thing that stands out the most are the eyes of the chimpanzee and the pain of the elephants face ,this is shocking and clever because it shows you the problem but then the piece of card next to the animals making them look like they are a homeless person .In this work I can see an animal in an urban space with litter on the floor and a piece of card that has a quote from a charity called born free. I recognise the urban setting as it is a normal street and the fact that they are sitting like a homeless person, I have never seen a chimpanzee or any wild animal sitting in the street before and this image is shocking and catches my attention. The mood of this piece is affected by the animal looking in to the audience directly making you feel there may be a human like brain within the animal this creates empathy and tells us that it is sad and depressing. This work reminds me off walking down the street everyday and seeing people who have no money begging in silence. The formal elements of this photograph create a piece that really shocking and emotive the editing of the chimp are floorless it looks like there no pieces that have been taken out of another photograph even the shadows of the chip has been added to create a 3d affected. I think Logan has used Photoshop and photo layering to create this photograph I also believe he has used some sort of a editing software which he can then create shadows. The element of this work that interests me the more is the animals eyes and the text within the image I love how the animal makes you really feel like he needs your help by looking striate in to the middle of the photo like he can look striate in to the audiences eyes creating a connection with the audience and then how the text has a statement then gives the information about how to help it is a powerful image.
I think that the chimpanzee is asking for help within this photograph and the charity has used this animal to appeal to our human side, also I believe that this image is a advertising scream to promoter the charity and ask for money think this art work is about the animals in the wild who are becoming homeless because of de-forestation and climate change, I think this because  of the sigh that says ‘thousands of animals are made homeless each mouth ‘ also the fact that the animal shown is not a domestic animal it is wild and lives in areas that humans don’t live within, i think this artist made this art work to create a statement about the environment  and animals around the world. I have researched about this series of works and this is what I found from the born free website “Using the spectacular photography of George Logan and the skills of Steve Hawthorne and Katy Hopkins at advertising company WCRS Limited, these images of wild animals placed within an urban setting aim to provide a shocking reminder that wildlife is losing its habitat at an alarming rate.  All services involved in this campaign, including advertising space and printing, have been kindly donated and together we are working to raise awareness of the issue and the work which Born Free is doing to “keep wildlife in the wild” – without strong, well-connected areas of habitat, this will be impossible.”. this research has confirmed my first thoughts that he has created this for the charity with the aim of getting people to notice what’s happening to these animals around the world asked Another person and she  said that “these images are shocking and really made me think about the animals out there in the wild that have no home.”I believe this work is relevant to my projected because it show the way animals are being forgotten by humans and that it’s not only domestic animals that should be worried about its the animals that we don’t always look at that we are treating in a worse way. My projected question is how has the relationship of man and animal be portrayed by photographers, this is relevant because this piece shows the negative side to being the more powerful raise and how humans have all the power when it comes to animals, this really shows the forgotten relationship of the humans and animals and that all the animals in the world and the humans have to interacted at some point but are not always in a positive way. This work is not relevant to the projected because it is aimed at an audience that need to be shocked by the photograph and then think about a issue ,my work is not projected is not about raising awareness so I will take a different approach towards this work when creating a response.
If I were to give this work a title I would call it “the silent victim” I think this tittles is appropriate because it gives a short but sweet explanation to the photographs meaning, the animal is a victim because he is being affected by the humans and has lost its home and it is silent because it can’t tell humans in the wild where it will live be affected and die and has no way of telling the humans of the world. Other tittles that might be appropriate are “homeless of the world” or “animal housing campaign” this would affected the interpretation of the work because it would make it seem like it was more of a charity photograph rather than a piece of art .if I found myself within the piece it would be sad and I would feel obligated to help the animal and I would be scared and depressed by the way it would be looking at me. If I had to compare George logons work to another artist I would link it to Oscar Ciutat work and in particular his series caged  The project started by chance back in 2008. I was visiting the local zoo, which I hadn’t been to in ages, and started taking pictures of the captive animals, just like everyone else was doing. My attention kept being drawn to their eyes, which, to me, seemed very sad, and I ended focusing my camera on them. I was intrigued by whether my impressions would be apparent to other people in the images. I wondered if that popular old saying, referring to humans, that goes “the eyes are the windows to the soul” could hold true for animals as well.
The difference between the two pieces is that one is for a charity and expresses a problem directly thro text to make sure the audience gets the point of the photograph  but when looking at these pieces from the series caged  you can see that they both exclude the same mood and thoughts ,the extreme close up on the eyes of these animals makes the animals look melancholy and the fact that you can’t see the rest of their face creates this feeling that we are just seeing the mood and emotions of the animal and not what is going on in the rest of the photograph .the similarities of the piece are that they both portray the negative side of the relationship between man and animal.
The element that I think  is most successful in George Logans work is the clear focus on the animal who is looking at the audience and creating the emotional messige that the charity wants the sign has text on a cardbord sign this brings out the fact that the animal is homeless and this is an emotionally steering photograph .the parts of this that i think relate to my projected question because i really like the way that he uses the wild animals and puts them in the urban setting and its all about them not having a voice.my project question "how is the relationship between man and animal shown in photography" is very relevant with this artist because they have really tried to get in to the emotional side of humans and it shows that human do care about animals ,this is the relationship between man and animal and evan in the animal that the human docent know there is still a connection.

Meaning
I aim to provide a shocking reminder that wildlife is loosing its habitat at an alarming rate.  Keep wildlife in the wild.
He has visually created this by using the familiar site of where homeless people are normally found and replacing that with exotic animals.  This makes his message really clear that in the same way homeless people are often misplaced , are not part of society, are  at the foot of the hierarchy so too are these animals.
He uses the familiar sight of homelessness with signs to further emphasise their message on behalf of the animals.

My Response
I have photographed these animals to try to communicate to the viewer that animals should have more freedom. I have done this by photographing animals in a farm and layering text from animal farm about animals taking power back from the farm/humans.
