Sebastian magnani
If i had to discribe this photograph i would say it is a split picture of a dog and the female owner but they are both waring the same thing and the dog has got her owners clothing and hair edited on to then.i have never seen a pice of work that shows the simalararitys so closely or that trys to demonstrates how pets take on the owners cartitasistics in shuch a visual way, this work reminds me of alessaura sanjainlti’s where she trys to show pets and there owners together in a split screen where they then both look more simular becouse of the connection between them in looks personality and the way in which it is displayed.
within the photograph both subjects are displayed in exactly the same way with the same hight and positioning the only diffrence between the subjects is that one is human and one is a dog but becouse of all the other simulartiteys they start to look really simular.the colours used within the photograph are purely from the clothing and hair ,the lighting is from infront of the subjects slightly from aboth becouse you can see that the bottem of the photographs is slightly in shadow and the top of the hair has been light to show the shine.there is space in the photograph becouse they are positioned in the same position so theres space around there heads and sholders with head room to help make the faces look longer.
the affected of the formal elaments help create a proffestional looking photograph which makes both the owner and the pet look evan more simular by haveing light that hides diffrences and the editing of the hair and clothing on to the dog is done in shuch a presice way that you cant see any gaps where the sholders are ,also the hair dosent look natral but becouse it is so well edited peobely on photoshop so that they can go right zoomed in to try and make the hair folicals look like there atached to the fur of the dog .
i think the artist has used lots of editing tecneques and affects to inhance the simulariteys between the dog and the owner ,the elament that intrests me the most within this photograph and in facted the serise in which this photograph has been taken from is that the dog looks uncaneingly like the owner like the photographer has picked a certan dog for each of the subjectes so if they have curly hair then the dog will have curly hair or if they have a longer face like the photograph aboth he would pick a dog with a long face this inhances the simularitys.the mood i get from this photograph is one of shock and its like im looking at a picture of twins becouse of the obiouse simularitys but one is a dog .
This is what was written on his we sight about his work :
Maguin started the project in August 2009. As soon as He had the idea, it had pretty much already been realized, namely to photograph dogs with their owners. What originally started out as entertainment, without expectation, without any pressure, was suddenly creating waves. The four-legged friends and their owners have since travelled the world. Various blogs, journals, and television shows have all reported on the bizarre image combinations of humans and animals. So where does this striking resemblance between dog and owner come from? Does the "underdog" really rank himself lower, even visually? It is undisputed that the canines not only stir emotions and interest, but also our inner most needs. Dogs are considered loyal, selfless, trustworthy, life saving, fun and proud companions in a world where these values are gradually disappearing. From the inexhaustible number of examples, lies the difficulty to find the gems, which captivate with uniqueness, brilliance and depth. Only to create a single moment of symbiosis - between man and beast - to be one.
This research has confirmed my opinion that the artist the wants to show the similarities between the dogs and there owners, this is exactly what I think is relevant to my project because I'm trying to look at the relationship between animals and that owners this will give me a more in-depth feeling of a positive relationship and a real connection between owners and there pets .the relationship between the animal and the owner is clear in the photographs because they look similar but also with the similarities are you also feel like the animal has been picked to fit the owner.
I were to give these pieces and name I would call them "similarities "because it is really clear to see within the photographs that there are similarities between dogs and the owner but also I think that's unique purpose of the photographs to covey the similarities between the animal and owner not only in looks but you feel there personality will be similar as well.
If I found myself within but I would think they be really creepy to have a dog that looks nearly exactly the same as you just a face of a dog.
The artist I want to compare the artist Alessandra sanguinetti she has been unfolding a tale of animals in humans in the interaction and dependence.
These these artists are not similar they have both got different ideas on animals the first has a positive idea where the animal and they look like there owners but the second shows the animals needs the human and that they are dependent on humans. She has a very violent and twisted way of showing how animals are dependent on humans and how they can decide the fate for example lots of her photographs are of hunting and of animals hunting animals for example dogs hunting rabbits .animals and then her slaughter-man this shows that humans have the power and that animals depend on humans just decide their fate.
The similarities between the photographs are that they both showed the clear relationship between a human and animal is it be that the human and animal work together to kill other animals or it to be that humans and animals have such a close relationship they start to look like each other.
The differences between these pictures are that one that has a very violent and negative view on animals and humans working together to be almost like the slaughtering process and the other has quite a positive relationship showing how close these two are .the strength shown from the man holding the dog its like he dose not want to let go of the dog this is the strength of the bond of the relationship.
The elements of Sebastian magnani work that are successful are the way he can create a photograph that can shock and captivate an aurdiance whilst making them thinking about there own relationship with there pets or how similar people are to there pets.the lighting and editing are there elements that really stand out within these photograph ,the lighting is high key and bright but it is exactly the same in both photographs so that they can capture the same colours and pieces of shadow, also the editing within the photographs is the most noticeable but the longer you look at the photo the more the human starts to look like the dog and the dog with the humans clothing and hair has become more and more like a human as you take time to really study the photo side of the photo with the dog you will start to see that the hair has been placed in a way in which it looks like its growing out of the dogs head.

Sebastian M
Comparing
visual similarities between owners and pets and how they seem to take on traits
of one another.
The
artist has tried to communicate through his work the fact that dogs are
‘selfless, trustworthy, fun and proud’ and that we should look to mirror that
as humans.
He has visually achieved this by playing
with scale and clothing to make the animals look human like.
my response
i worked with 2 ideas
firstly i looked at how animals and humans take on each others trates when spending time together and this is why animals can often look like there owners because they copy small things they do ,i wanted to mirror this by swapping the human for the animal looking at different ways in which animals could take the next step in acting human ,so i took photographs of the animals doing things that humans would for example laying in bed or warring clothing also playing on a phone or packing a suit case these where the images.

my second idear was to communicate through my work Sebastian's sentiment that we should look up to the positive qualities animals have. I want to create a shoot with owner and animals and ask them a questions that explores what is it that we respect in our animals?
I will ask them
Why do you have your pet?
What qualities do you like about your pet?
What qualities do you not like about your pet?
